Scottish Parliament Election, Thursday 7 May 2026

A Scottish Parliamentary Election will take place on Thursday 7 May. 

In North Lanarkshire there are five constituencies: 

  • Airdrie
  • Coatbridge and Chryston
  • Cumbernauld and Kilsyth
  • Motherwell and Wishaw
  • Uddingston and Bellshill

You can vote in this election if you are registered to vote in Scotland and will be 16 or over on 7 May.

Notice of Election

The Notice of Election for these constituencies and for the Central Scotland and Lothians West Region were published on Monday 16 March.

Registering to vote

If you want to have your say at the election, you must be registered to vote by midnight on Monday 20 April.

You can do this at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. You will need your National Insurance Number and date of birth to complete the registration. 

If you’re not sure if you are already registered to vote, the Electoral Registration Office can tell you.

Voting by post or proxy 

If you won’t be able to go to a polling station on 7 May, you can apply for a postal or proxy vote.

Applications for new postal votes, postal proxy votes and amendments to, or cancellation of, existing postal or existing proxy votes must be with the Electoral Registration Office by 5pm on 21 April. 

Applications for new proxy votes must be received by 5pm on Tuesday 28 April. 

Constituency and regional votes

In this election, you have two ballot papers – one to elect an MSP for your constituency and one to elect MSPs for the wider Central Scotland Region.

As well as the constituencies in North Lanarkshire, votes from four neighbouring constituencies are included in deciding who is elected to the Central Scotland Region. These constituencies are Falkirk East and Linlithgow, Falkirk West, Almond Valley and Bathgate.
