Young Persons’ Free Bus Travel

Children aged 11 to 15

Children aged 11 to 15 years old will need a new or replacement National Entitlement Card (NEC) or Young Scot National Entitlement Card (Young Scot NEC) to travel free by bus. Parents or carers of 11 to 15-year-olds must apply on their behalf.

If your child/children has an existing Young Scot card, go to Get Your NEC and select 'get a replacement/update card'.

You will require the existing card number (the 16-digit number directly under the name on the card).

If you don’t have the existing card number or they are aged 11 or over and don’t have a Young Scot card, select 'apply for a Young Scot card'.

Please note - pupils currently in P7 moving to secondary in August will be allowed to apply through their school between April and June 2022.

You will require to verify your identity and that of the child/children you are applying on behalf of.

Video guidance is available at:

Other application methods will be supported if there are specific reasons you are not able to apply online at Get Your NEC.

If this is the case please email youngscot@northlan.gov.uk
