Free bus travel for people seeking asylum in Scotland living in North Lanarkshire
The Scottish Government, through Transport Scotland, has introduced a pilot scheme that provides free bus travel for people who are seeking asylum. This scheme is designed to help individuals in the asylum process access essential services, education, health care, and community support more easily.
The pilot began on 1 December 2025, and applications are now open. Free bus travel is provided through the National Entitlement Card system, which issues a bus pass to eligible applicants.
How to apply
If you are seeking asylum, you can apply for your National Entitlement Card with support from partner agencies. To apply, you should complete the application form and include:
- A photo or copy of your identification (see below)
- A passport style photograph
Local Authorities process the applications, but partner agencies can help you understand what is required and ensure that all documents are provided.
Proof you must provide
You must provide one of the following:
- Your ARC card, also known as the Application Registration Card.
- Or your Home Office Bail 201 form.
