Wildflower planting

Wildflower participatory budgeting project

Wildflower planting sign

Planting is taking place at five locations identified through a Participatory Budgeting project which saw local people suggest improvements in their communities.

At Newarthill Woods, a wildflower meadow has been planted as well as Willow, Alder and Birch trees. Flag Iris, Water Forget-me-not and Purple Loosestrife have also been added to the pond. Pupils from Newarthill Primary School helped to plant seeds and visited the pond to learn about the wildlife and biodiversity.

Children from Gartcosh Primary School’s Eco Group helped Countryside Rangers to plant wildflowers on ground next to the cycle track at Gartcosh Nature Reserve.

And at the Dalzell Estate in Motherwell, a woodland nature trail has been created with pupils from Muirhouse Primary School helping to plant wildflowers along the route.

Planting will take place during 2023 and signs will be installed at the sites to tell people about the plants and wildlife they can see.
