Runners, families and local communities are being encouraged to lace up their trainers as the North Lanarkshire Half Marathon has been officially launched for 2026.

The half marathon on Sunday 23 August is open to participants aged 16 and over and features a fully chip-timed route through Motherwell and surrounding areas, with both the start and finish based at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility. For those looking for a shorter challenge, a 5K race is also available for ages 12+, offering another opportunity to be part of the action.

Every half marathon entrant will receive a race T-shirt, fruit, water, cereal bars and hydration gels as part of their entry.

The event promises a full day out for the whole family, with a lively Family Fun Zone at Ravenscraig featuring bouncy castles, trampolines, face painting, live music, food vendors, entertainment and “Come & Try” sports sessions. Whether you’re racing, cheering from the sidelines or just soaking up the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone.

Helping to officially launch this year’s event, Provost Kenneth Duffy said: “The success of last year’s Half Marathon really showed what North Lanarkshire is all about, supporting one another and enjoying being active in their community. The atmosphere last year was fantastic, from the runners on the course to families enjoying a day out.”

Council Leader Jim Logue said: “Last year’s event was a huge achievement and a real credit to the staff, volunteers and partners who worked so hard to make it happen. We’re proud to be bringing it back and to continue growing it year on year.

“I’d like to thank our sponsors, Albert Bartlett, for their continued support and commitment to promoting healthy, active communities. Events like this make a real difference and are part of our wider commitment to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get active and enjoy sport in their local area.”

Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of Communities, added: “This event is about so much more than running. It brings people together, gets families active and shows the real community spirit we have. Whether you’re taking part, volunteering or coming along to support, it’s a brilliant day out and something everyone can feel part of.”

Registration for the 2026 event is now open. Full details, routes and entry information are available by visiting: Active NL
