Are you worried that an adult could be at risk of harm?

Residents across North Lanarkshire are being asked to stay alert to vulnerable adults in their communities who may be at risk of harm.

Adult Support and Protection Day takes place on Friday 20 February 2026, and the North Lanarkshire Adult Protection Committee is urging everyone to report any concerns so that those in need can access support.

We would like everyone to use the day as a reminder that we all have a role to play in Adult Support and Protection.

It’s important for everyone to speak up about any concerns they have, as the person at risk may not be able to do so themselves.

To mark the day the Civic Centre in Motherwell will be illuminated in blue.

Judith Tait, Independent Convenor of North Lanarkshire’s Adult Protection Committee, said: “Adult support and protection is everybody’s business. As family members, friends, communities and professionals, there are times when we worry that the people we know and care about are not safe. If you are worried about someone, don’t keep it to yourself. If you see something, say something.”

Brenda Walker, National Adult Support and Protection Coordinator for Scotland, said: “We know it’s hard to be the person who takes that step and makes a referral about someone they are concerned about. Sometimes we assume someone else has already acted, especially if services are already involved, but you might have the missing piece of the jigsaw that shows they need support and protection.

“We all have a role to play in keeping vulnerable people safe. If you see something you’re worried about, then please say something.”

If you’re worried that someone is at risk of harm or neglect from others – or is harming or neglecting themselves – contact your local social work office in the North Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership: Adult support and protection | North Lanarkshire Council

Alternatively, you can contact Police Scotland on 101, or call 999 if you believe the person is in immediate danger.

You can also find advice and tools on North Lanarkshire’s Public Protection website: https://publicprotectionnl.co.uk/
