The John Smith Swimming Pool in Airdrie is set to reopen to the public on 6 April 2026 after the completion of a significant refurbishment programme.
The works have delivered a brighter and more modern facility. The programme included the full replacement of the movable pool floor, extensive retiling of the pool tank walls, and regrouting of the pool floor.
Visitors will also benefit from the installation of new accessible pool stairs, a fully refurbished pool filtration system, and upgrades to both the water treatment system and the building’s heating system.
Heather Liddle, Active & Creative Communities Manager, said: “We look forward to welcoming everyone back. The upgrades not only make the pool more accessible, but they also create a much more enjoyable environment for all our visitors.”
A key change accompanying the reopening is the introduction of evening public swimming sessions.
Before the temporary closure in December 2024, most evenings after 6.30pm were reserved exclusively for club use. However, the new timetable offers greater flexibility for families, casual swimmers and fitness enthusiasts, ensuring the pool is more accessible to the wider community.
Once reopened, the pool will operate Monday to Thursday from 11:00am until 9:00pm, on Fridays from 11:00am until 7:00pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00am until 4:00pm.
Public access to the pool at weekends will continue until 1:30pm, after which club sessions begin.
The health suite and gym will remain fully available throughout opening hours.
