Work is well underway on a new pump track at Airdrie Leisure Centre, with the £186,000 project already starting to take shape.

The new facility, being delivered by our Community Partnership Team, will give local people a new space to enjoy BMX biking, scootering, cycling and other wheeled activities, in addition to the adjacent skatepark.

The track is being designed with rollers, berms, turns and other features that allow riders to build momentum through body movement, rather than constant pedalling. It will provide an active outdoor space for people of different ages and abilities to enjoy.

Council Leader Jim Logue recently visited the site to see the progress for himself. He said: “It’s great to see how quickly this project is coming together. There’s already a real sense of what the finished pump track will look like, and I’m sure local people will be excited to see it open.

“This is a significant investment in Airdrie and will give local families and young people another place to get active, have fun and spend time outdoors. We’re looking forward to seeing the finished track being enjoyed by the community later this year.”

Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of Communities, said: “This pump track has been shaped around what local communities want and will give people in Airdrie a fantastic new space to get active and enjoy the outdoors.”

The development is also supported by the Scottish Government’s Play Area Renewal Fund with work expected to be completed by later this autumn.

The project is one of a number of community-led improvements being delivered across North Lanarkshire through our Local Development Programme.
