A community garden has been officially opened by Holytown Environmental Group.
The project was funded with £25,000 from our Local Development Programme, creating the garden at an underdeveloped site on Main Street.
With support from our Community Partnership Team and Climate Action Towns, residents drew up plans for the garden which includes raised planters with flowers and shrubs, seating and paths.
Provost Kenneth Duffy joined members of Holytown Environmental Group, residents, local elected members and council officers to officially open the garden on 20 September.
“Congratulations to Holytown Environmental Group on creating a fantastic green space at the heart of the community,” Provost Duffy said.
“The garden is a focal point for the village, an ideal place for local people to meet and chat. Speaking to people at the opening, it’s clear this is a positive project for everyone in Holytown.”
At opening event, Holytown Environment Group offered refreshments and our Community Learning & Development team provided garden games and entertainment for local children. There was also a special visit by ‘Anna’ from Disney’s Frozen!
