Our RecoverNL programme to support people affected by the pandemic is continuing with a multimillion pound investment in key projects.

Support for businesses to create new jobs, environmental improvements and road safety measures are just some of the areas included in the council’s recovery budget.

The £3.8million one-off investments are additional measures to support the area’s recovery and boost the economy following the recent global health pandemic.

The recovery budget will focus on the projects including:

  • £500,000 to support initiatives such as work-based training, retraining/upskilling, promoting digital skills and helping businesses to create new job opportunities
  • £1million towards business support, including encouraging new business start-ups, business transformation/diversification, reducing carbon emissions and enhanced use of digital technologies
  • £400,000 will be invested in new ways to kill weeds
  • £95,000 on increased engagement with local community groups to tackle social isolation
  • £335,000 on the area’s parks, including enhancing the park ranger service and providing additional lighting
  • £316,000 on repairs and maintenance to synthetic and grass pitches
  • £253,000 on road and community safety initiatives
  • £284,000 on additional resources for winter weather responses
  • £400,000 to support food safety standards and ensure compliance with Covid-19 requirements

Councillor Jim Logue, Council Leader, said: “We are determined to do everything we can to support businesses, create new jobs, improve the environment and help vulnerable people in our communities.

“This latest investment in our RecoverNL initiative does just that, it focuses on areas that have suffered the most and will support North Lanarkshire’s recovery in the best possible way.

“Together with our partners we continued to provide essential services throughout the pandemic to support people and to keep our communities safe. This latest announcement will enhance the support packages already in place to ensure our area makes a full recovery from the crisis.

“The pandemic has resulted in a great deal of financial uncertainty for public sector organisations. However, thanks to good housekeeping we have been able to target almost £4million on key areas that will help our communities to recover and thrive.”
