Tenants at Afton Gardens Retirement Complex in Coatbridge and pupils from St. Stephens Primary School took part in the latest session of our intergenerational digital project.
This award-winning project brings generations together to improve digital skills among older adults, while helping pupils develop vital communication and social skills.
During the weekly sessions, they engaged in lively discussions using iPads, supporting the older residents to navigate the digital world with confidence.
The pupils, in turn, gained valuable experience in patience and interpersonal communication, learning how to teach and support the tenants in a respectful and engaging way.
The project is delivered through our Driving Digital Locally initiative.
Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of the Communities Committee, visited one of the weekly sessions: “It was great to see how this intergenerational digital project is bringing people together, bridging age gaps and building confidence in technology.
“The enthusiasm from both younger and older participants shows just how powerful these connections can be, not only in improving digital skills, but in strengthening our communities and tackling isolation.”
One of the seniors who took part, John said: "It was wonderful to be involved in these sessions. The young people were friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. They gave us confidence to use technology in ways we had not before, and it was lovely to see meaningful conversations and friendships develop between the generations. We all learned something from each other."
