A public consultation on plans for the new road from Motherwell to Ravenscraig is open.

The Ravenscraig Access Infrastructure South (RAIS) project will create the road and public transport network required to support the development of the former steelworks site.

RAIS is being delivered by North Lanarkshire Council as part of its Glasgow Region City Deal Programme. It will happen in two phases: Windmillhill Street to Ravenscraig; and Airbles Road Improvements.

Plans for the project are available online at www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/ravenscraig-south-citydeal and the public are invited to give their feedback. The consultation runs until 14 December.

“The new road and transport network are critical to the regeneration of Ravenscraig, supporting the construction of a further 3,300 homes and over 160,000 square metres of civic and community space, office, retail, and employment developments,” said Councillor Alex McVey, Convener of the Enterprise and Fair Work Committee.

“Planning permission was granted for the first phase in 2022, and this year we have reviewed the proposals to ensure they deliver the best value for the project, minimise disruption during construction and support development opportunities for Motherwell and Ravenscraig.

“Our consultation allows residents and businesses the chance to see the updated road plans and to give feedback.”
