The council been recognised at the prestigious Herald Property Awards for Scotland 2025, winning Best Renovation and Conversion for the transformation of the former YMCA building in Motherwell.

The landmark project has seen the once-derelict building brought back to life as six modern apartments, forming part of a wider development of 48 new homes at Brandon Street. Delivered in partnership with CCG (Scotland) Ltd and Coltart Earley Architecture, and supported by the Scottish Government, the homes combine high-quality design with renewable technologies.

Councillor Michael McPake, Convener of Housing, said: “This is an outstanding achievement and fantastic recognition for everyone involved. What was once a derelict site has been completely transformed into high-quality homes that people are proud to live in. It shows the difference we can make by investing in our town centres, breathing new life into old buildings while creating modern, energy-efficient homes for our tenants.

“I’m incredibly proud of this project and the wider progress we’re making with our new build programme, delivering homes, creating jobs and boosting local communities.”
