A new confidential mental health support service has been launched for young people and adults in North Lanarkshire.

We have been working in partnership with mental health provider - Kooth, to provide the free online mental health support service which is available for all 10-to 18-year-olds, and those aged up to 26-years-old who are care experienced.

The service provides a safe and anonymous online resource for young people that can be accessed through smart phones, tablets or computers. It features activities, self-help articles, live chats, discussion boards and is guided by a team of accredited counsellors and practitioners who can provide focused individual support.

Kooth allows young people to access mental health and wellbeing support quickly, confidentially and provides a safe space for those who might not feel confident accessing traditional face-to-face services. Users can also write their own daily journal and read helpful articles featuring personal experiences and tips.

Angela Campbell, Convener of Education, Children and Families said: “This digital resource provides an excellent tool to support the mental health of children, young people and adults in our communities.

“As a council, we are determined to do all we can to provide the mental health support our local communities need. We are also committed to delivering on The Promise, which means providing a loving, caring and stable environment for those who are care experienced.

“The service provided by Kooth will complement our existing support services and will provide easy access to free digital mental health services at the click of a button.”

Kooth is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week with counselling available 12-10pm on weekdays and 6-10pm on weekends, all year round. There are no waiting lists or referrals, and young people can register anonymously at www.kooth.com.
