Balmalloch Primary and Nursery Class has been recognised with two national awards for its outstanding work in enterprise and sport.

The school has received the Enterprising Schools Awardreflecting how financial education and entrepreneurial thinking are part of everyday learning.

Head Teacher Ruth McCarthy said: "We’re absolutely delighted to receive this recognition. It reflects the hard work of our staff, pupils and wider school community."

In addition, Balmalloch has been awarded the sportscotland Gold School Sport Award for 2025–2027. This is given to schools that place sport and physical activity at the heart of school life.

The Gold Award highlights Balmalloch’s strong commitment to physical education, school sport and leadership opportunities for young people. It also recognises the school’s efforts to promote lifelong participation in sport.

Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, Children and Families, praised the school’s achievements, saying: "Congratulations to everyone at Balmalloch Primary and Nursery Class - I’m delighted that all your hard work and effort has been recognised nationally."

Ms McCarthy added: "These awards show how we’re helping our pupils grow in confidence, leadership and teamwork."

Pupils at Balmalloch have played a key role in the school’s success. Here’s what some of them had to say:

Mila said: "I love sports and being active. I play football for Kilsyth Athletics and love PE. It was totally epic to be part of the Sports Committee. The best thing was being a Sports Leader and taking P1s for games during lunchtimes. This helped me be responsible, confident and a role model for others."

Struan said: "I loved being part of the Sports Committee. I think it made me healthier because I spent lots of time outdoors doing sport and helping younger ones enjoy games. I especially liked organising Sports Day and choosing events like tug of war and penalty shoot-outs."

Blake added: "My favourite thing was organising the Santa Dash and Family Fun Day for the whole school, nursery and families. Anyone could take part, race with their families and have fun – and we raised money for school sports too. I learned how to be organised, work as a team, be enthusiastic and take responsibility."
