Environmental clean ups are being carried out in housing areas across North Lanarkshire to improve communities for residents.

Our land management team will be clearing weeds, cutting back shrubbery, cleaning paving and removing rubbish in communal spaces around homes.

The project is being run in partnership with housing services as a trial for two years, with nine new jobs being created to support the work.

“As well as making improvements to our council homes themselves, we work to maintain the environment around properties for tenants to use,” said Councillor Michael McPake, Convener of the Housing Committee.

“This project is targeting shared spaces, particularly around flats, that would benefit from a clean up to improve local neighbourhoods.”

Councillor McPake and Councillor Helen Loughran, Convener of the Environment and Climate Change Committee, visited Cairnhill in Airdrie to see the work carried out there.

“The improvements made to Cairnhill are impressive, and the project will be rolled out to other communities over the coming months,” Councillor Loughran said.

“As part of our It’s your place initiative, this joint project with housing and land management will help make sure North Lanarkshire is a clean, safe and attractive place to live for our residents.”
