More than 1,000 runners are getting ready to take part in this year's North Lanarkshire Half Marathon as excitement builds ahead of the event on Sunday 23 August.

Sponsored by Albert Bartlett, the event will once again start and finish at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility and will feature a Half Marathon, 5K, 1K, 400m and Toddler Dash, offering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved.

Provost Kenneth Duffy said:

"Last year's Half Marathon was a fantastic reflection of what North Lanarkshire is all about.

"This year, we’re looking forward to making the event even bigger and better, building on that incredible community spirit and creating another memorable day for runners, families and everyone who comes along to support."

The event also provides an opportunity to support charities, community organisations and partners who share Active NL’s commitment to encouraging healthier lifestyles and bringing people together.

Around 150 runners will take part as part of Team Well Foundation, raising money for Beatson Cancer Charity.

The Well Foundation is a Scottish charity dedicated to improving lives locally and internationally through health, wellbeing, education and humanitarian projects. Through its Well Foundation Sports Academy, the charity engages more than 400 people every week through football, boxing, badminton, fitness and other community activities, helping to tackle health inequalities and social isolation.

Chair of The Well Foundation, Fahim Baqir, said:

"For this year's North Lanarkshire Half Marathon and 5K, we have around 150 runners taking part as part of Team Well Foundation raising money for Beatson Cancer Charity.

"The event is about much more than running, it's an opportunity to bring people together, encourage healthier lifestyles, promote community spirit and raise awareness and funds to support our ongoing work across Lanarkshire and beyond."

With fewer than 20 Half Marathon places remaining, those still hoping to take part are encouraged to enter soon before entries close.

Following the success of last year's event, we are looking forward to welcoming runners, volunteers, supporters and families for another fantastic celebration of running, health, wellbeing and community spirit.
