Pupils and staff at Bothwellpark High School in Motherwell held a special goodbye party to mark the end of an era.

The event was hosted by Clyde 1 radio presenter Garry Spence and DJ Kainan Milligan.

After the summer holidays, the school will move to a new home in Wishaw, in the Coltness area.

The new school will have better equipment, improved learning spaces, and outdoor learning areas. It will also have improved access for wheelchair users.

As part of the move, and after consultation with parents and carers, the school will also get a new name: Woodlands Park High School.

Head Teacher Michael McGinley said: “Today is a big moment for us as we say goodbye to our much-loved school. Even though the building is closing, the spirit of our school will live on.

“I want to thank everyone who’s been part of our journey. We’re excited for the future and ready to keep supporting and inspiring our pupils.”

Provost Kenneth Duffy also shared his best wishes: “I’d like to wish all the pupils and staff the very best as they move into their new school. This is an exciting new chapter, and I’m confident the new facilities will help everyone thrive and continue to go from strength to strength.”

Bothwellpark High School has been based on the same site as Our Lady’s High School since 1997. It supports secondary-aged pupils with additional support needs. Over the years, the number of pupils has grown from around 30 to over 60.
