Woodlands Park High School has officially opened this week, offering greatly enhanced facilities for around 60 pupils with additional support needs.

The new school - previously known as Bothwellpark High School – is located in the former Edward Lawson Centre in Coltness, Wishaw.

The building has been completely refurbished to create a bright and welcoming learning environment for pupils.

Michael McGinley, Head Teacher of Woodlands Park HS, said: “Today marks an exciting new chapter for us all. You could see the look of joy on our pupils, parents and staff as they entered the new building.

“It gives us lots of new ways to help our pupils learn, including much better access to outdoor spaces.”

The new campus also welcomes pupils from St Aidan’s Primary School’s Language and Communication Support Centre, specifically those in primary 4 to 7.

Kerri Thomson, acting Head teacher of St Aidan’s Primary School, said: “This is a such a positive development and the additional capacity that the new campus provides will really enhance our pupils’ learning experiences.”

Pupils were delighted with their new surroundings saying, "this is the best day ever!" and "this is better than Christmas!"

Councillor Michael McBride said: I’d like to wish all the pupils and staff from both schools the very best as they settle into their new learning environment.

“It’s a fresh start in a wonderful location, and I’m sure the new building and facilities will match our ambitions to providing the best possible learning experiences for all our young people."
