Pupils and staff at Greengairs Primary School and Nursery Class in Airdrie are celebrating after achieving the Gold School Sport Award, recognising their commitment to physical education, school sport and promoting active, healthy lifestyles.
The award reflects the school community’s focus on creating opportunities for pupils to take part, develop new skills and enjoy being active, both during the school day and through wider sporting opportunities.
Audrey Sneddon, Head Teacher of Greengairs Primary School and Nursery Class, said: “We are pleased to receive the Gold School Sport Award. This reflects the enthusiasm of our pupils, the commitment of our staff and the support from our families and wider community.
“We are proud of the sporting culture at Greengairs, where every child is encouraged to take part, challenge themselves and benefit from an active lifestyle. It is also particularly timely as this year we are marking 50 years of the school on its present site.”
Councillor Louise Roarty, Depute Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, added: “Congratulations to everyone at Greengairs on this achievement. Attaining the Gold School Sport Award reflects the continued efforts of pupils, staff and families in making physical activity and wellbeing part of everyday school life.
“The award recognises the inclusive environment at the school, giving all young people the opportunity to take part and benefit from being active.”
Greengairs Sports Committee added: "We are really proud of all of the pupils and teachers who have helped us on our journey to gold!"
