Active NL’s Golf Team has been shortlisted for Community Team of the Year at the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) Golf Awards, placing North Lanarkshire firmly on the national golfing map.
The nomination recognises the team’s outstanding work over the past year as well as a strong commitment to inclusion, development and community engagement.
Active NL’s Golf Team has played a key role in providing high-quality golf opportunities for people of all ages and abilities across the area.
John Kelly, Golf Operations Manager with North Lanarkshire Council said: “Our programme continues to support player development while promoting confidence, teamwork and lifelong participation in the sport.
“The shortlisting is a significant achievement for Active NL and reflects the collective efforts of operations staff, players, coaches, volunteers, grounds staff and partners who support golf development locally.”
Last month representatives from the SGU visited Lochview Family Golf Centre in Coatbridge to find out more about the programme’s success.
They heard about the impact of the team’s work, extending beyond the course and into schools, communities and inclusive programmes throughout North Lanarkshire.
Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of the Communities Committee, said: “This is a fantastic recognition for everyone involved. To be shortlisted for a national SGU award highlights the hard work, passion and commitment shown by our golf team and support staff throughout the year.”
The winners will be announced at the SGU Golf Awards ceremony later this year.
