Pupils at Condorrat Primary School and Nursery have been described by school inspectors as ‘articulate, confident and enthusiastic about their learning’ in a positive inspection report.

The Cumbernauld school and nursery was inspected in February this year and the final report has now been published.

Condorrat is a bi-lingual school, with a Gaelic Stream where pupils are educated through the medium of Gaelic.

Inspectors rated the school ‘good’ across all four categories: leadership of change; learning, teaching and assessment; ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion; and raising attainment and achievement.

The inspection team found the following strengths in the school’s work:

  • Children are articulate, confident and enthusiastic about their learning. They are very proud to be learners at Bun-sgoil Chondobhrait – Condorrat Primary School, where they are polite and caring to their peers and adults.
  • The headteacher and staff co-operate well to bring about meaningful improvements for the bun-sgoil – primary school. The headteacher has developed a culture where values are central to children’s learning and successes.
  • Staff and children’s relationships within the nursery - sgoil-àraich are warm, nurturing and highly supportive. Children benefit from staff’s positive interactions, resulting in children being secure and confident in their play and learning.
  • Staff and partners are very committed to Gàidhlig, which is clear from children’s strong pride in the language and culture. Children respond positively to opportunities that deepen their skills and knowledge in Gàidhlig language and culture.
  • Children’s wellbeing is strongly enhanced by a rich range of opportunities and experiences offered across the bun-sgoil. These well-planned activities promote children’s wellbeing, confidence, resilience and positive relationships. Children feel valued and included.

Julie-Ann Price, Head Teacher of Condorrat Primary School and Nursery, said: “I am delighted that inspectors recognised our children as articulate, confident and enthusiastic learners who are proud of their school. Their polite, caring nature and positive relationships with peers and adults help to create an environment where children feel valued and included.

“Inspectors highlighted the strong commitment of our staff, pupils and partners to Gàidhlig. At a time when the Scottish Languages Act 2025 has recognised Gaelic as an official language of Scotland and strengthened support for Gaelic education, the report acknowledges the important role our school plays in nurturing children’s pride in the language and culture, while developing the next generation of Gaelic speakers.

“We were delighted that the report recognises the positive culture across our school community, where strong teamwork, shared values and nurturing relationships promote children’s wellbeing, rights, confidence and resilience, helping every child feel valued, included and supported to succeed.”
