Our Community Learning and Development (CLD) team is the first service within the council to receive the Keeping the Promise Award.

This award shows their strong commitment to helping children and young people who have experience of being in care.

The award recognises how the team has made The Promise—Scotland’s national pledge to improve the lives of care-experienced young people—a key part of their everyday work.

By completing a special training programme, the CLD team is showing real leadership in creating welcoming and supportive learning environments.

Liz Fergus, Manager for Community Learning, Development and Resources in Education and Families, said: “This award shows our strong commitment to making a real difference for young people, especially those who have experience of care.

“We hope our work encourages other services in North Lanarkshire to do the same and help build a community where all young people feel supported.”

Councillor Costello, the area’s Care Experienced Champion, added: “North Lanarkshire Council is fully committed to keeping the promise. This award recognises the joint efforts of different services to improve the lives of care-experienced people here.

“Everything we do is shaped by listening to those who have lived in care. We still have a journey ahead, but this award shows we’re on the right track. I look forward to continuing this work with everyone involved.”

The Keeping the Promise Award was created with the help of North Lanarkshire Council, the West Partnership, Education Scotland, and CELCIS.

Its goal is to help staff better support care-experienced young people, reduce stigma, and promote good practice.

By being the first to receive the award in the area, the CLD team is setting a great example—working to make sure every young person in the community gets the support and chances they need.
