Development plans for the next phase of Millcroft Road’s regeneration are advancing to the next stage with flats being acquired to enable preparation of the site for demolition and for the construction of new, high quality council homes.
Our Housing Committee heard of the significant progress made in recent years on Millcroft Road’s regeneration plans, specifically with the confirmation of the Compulsory Purchase Order in January for the existing 169 flats marking a significant milestone in taking forward this transformative project.
As part of the project’s ongoing regeneration progress, details for property acquisition and rehousing of the existing residents were outlined.
Our plans for the Carbrain site include delivering 72 new council homes. These will be developed within an existing residential area built to high quality modern standards with enhanced energy efficiency measures.
Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake said: “We have made significant progress in addressing the long-term issues with the flats at Millcroft Road. For years, local people and residents have raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of the flats, including issues such as antisocial behaviour, fire-raising and persistent problems with fly-tipping and rubbish dumping.
“Through this council-led project, we are addressing these long-standing issues by purchasing the flats, demolishing the existing structures, and redeveloping the site to provide modern, affordable housing.
“We are committed to working closely with residents and owner-occupiers to ensure they are supported throughout this process, and a number of owner occupiers have already been re-housed in new flats built by Sanctuary Housing Association in Burns Rd.
“We are determined to deliver this vital regeneration project and provide a positive future for the area and its residents.”
