Provost Kenneth Duffy visited pupils at Morningside Primary School to learn more about their inspiring work to promote Fairtrade and support ethical trading in their community.
During the visit, the Provost met with pupils and staff to hear how the school has been raising awareness of Fairtrade and encouraging others to make choices that support fairness, sustainability and respect for people and the planet.
Head Teacher Anne Marie McClymont said: “We’re very proud of our pupils and the enthusiasm they show for Fairtrade. They understand that small actions, like choosing Fairtrade products, can have a big impact on the lives of farmers and workers around the world. Their commitment to promoting fairness and sustainability is something we encourage across the whole school community.”
Fairtrade not only helps ensure fair prices and better working conditions for producers in developing countries but also supports a wider campaign calling on the UK Government to strengthen laws that protect human rights and the environment in global supply chains.
Provost Duffy said: “It was fantastic to meet such passionate and thoughtful pupils who are taking real action to make a difference. Their efforts show how young people can lead the way in building a fairer, more sustainable future, both locally and globally. The school’s commitment to Fairtrade is a credit to everyone involved.”
