The Kirkin’ of the Council ceremony took place at Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral in Motherwell on Sunday 21 September.
Provost Kenneth Duffy, The Lord Lieutenant Lady Haughey and Council Chief Executive Des Murray were joined by elected members and council officials for the traditional ceremony which celebrates the connection between the council and local communities.
The service, which coincided with the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the parish and the 125th anniversary of the opening of the present church, was led by Bishop Joseph Toal with Rev. Brian Lamb.
“The Kirkin’ of the Council is an important, long-standing tradition for the council, and I would like to thank the congregation of Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral for making us so welcome,” said Provost Duffy.
“It has been held in different places of worship since the first ceremony in May 1996, giving us the opportunity to meet local communities and build links with each congregation.”
The first Kirkin’ of the Council ceremony, after North Lanarkshire Council was created, was also held at the cathedral.
