Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral Primary School and Nursery Class has received glowing praise from Education Scotland, with the primary school being rated ‘excellent’ in three key areas—an achievement that places it among Scotland’s top-performing schools.
Inspectors highlighted the outstanding leadership of Head Teacher Graeme Young, the exceptional enthusiasm and behaviour of pupils, and the high-quality teaching and learning taking place across the school.
The report, which is one of the best-ever for a school in Scotland, also commended the strong focus on wellbeing, inclusion, and achievement.
Mr Young said: “For the school to be recognised as ‘excellent’ in three quality indicators is, quite simply, outstanding and places Cathedral amongst Scotland’s very top schools.
“Our incredible children and dedicated staff shine throughout the report and I am grateful to the inspection team for capturing our Cathedral family so perfectly in their words.
“The publication of our outstanding inspection report is all the more special as it comes towards the end of Cathedral’s 150th anniversary celebrations. What a way to round off our special year!”
Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, Children and Families, praised the school’s achievements: “This is an exceptional report for Cathedral Primary School. The dedication of the head teacher, staff and pupils is clear, and it’s fantastic to see their hard work recognised at such a high level.
“The whole school community should be incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved, especially during such a milestone year.”
P4 pupil Louisa said: "I enjoy being a pupil at Cathedral Primary because I can learn and play with my friends.
“We’re encouraged to be independent and to work together. At Cathedral Primary, we celebrate what makes each of us unique and we respect each other’s differences. It’s a great place to learn!"
Staff at Cathedral Primary School are committed to building on this success and continuing to provide a nurturing, high-quality learning environment for every child.
