Our Lady and St Francis Primary School in Motherwell is celebrating after retaining its SportScotland Gold Sports Award.

The school first achieved the Gold Award two years ago. After reapplying and providing strong evidence of its continued commitment to sport and physical activity, it has once again been successful.

Retaining the award recognises the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of both pupils and staff.

To mark the achievement, the school held a special assembly where pupils showcased the excellent work of the school’s sports committee. Volunteers who help run the school’s extracurricular sports clubs were also invited to join the celebration.

Head Teacher Claire Semple said: “We are delighted to receive this award for a second time. Our Depute Head Teacher, Chris Maxwell, has been the driving force behind this achievement.

“Thanks to his commitment and the hard work of all our staff, our children have benefited from a wide range of opportunities to try new sports, take part in multi‑school festivals and lead sports development within the school.

“I would also like to thank our Active Schools Coordinator, Lauren Grant, who has worked closely with us to help secure this award. It is a huge achievement and one we are very proud of.”

The SportScotland Gold Sports Award is the highest level of recognition for schools that demonstrate a strong, whole‑school commitment to physical education, physical activity and sport.
