Our Lady’s High School marked its 150th anniversary with a special Mass at Motherwell Cathedral, led by His Lordship Bishop Toal.
The cathedral was filled with current and former staff, head teachers from associated primary schools, and staff from many other North Lanarkshire secondary schools.
One of the highlights of the evening was the beautiful music provided by the school choir, thanks to the hard work of Mr Mark McVeagh and the music department.
During the service, two long-serving members of staff, Mrs Anne O'Donnell and Mrs Lynn Zambonini, were honoured with the Diocesan Medal for Services to Catholic Education. Their dedication to Our Lady’s High over the years has been described as ‘truly outstanding’.
Head Teacher Louisa McGraw said: “It was a privilege to celebrate this milestone with our school community. Seeing so many familiar faces and recognising the contributions of our staff made it a truly special evening.
“A special thanks also goes to Mrs Kat Smith, Mrs Anne O'Donnell, Mrs Anne Munro and Father Morris, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event a success.”
The Mass, which took place on Thursday 4 September, attended by invited guests including Provost of North Lanarkshire Kenneth Duffy and Education Convener Councillor Michael McBride.
Provost Kenneth Duffy added: “Our Lady’s High has played a vital role in the lives of generations of families in North Lanarkshire. It was an honour to be part of such a meaningful celebration.”
Councillor Michael McBride, Education Convener, said: “The school’s commitment to excellence in education is clear, and this anniversary is a testament to the strength of its values and community spirit.”
The school will continue with the anniversary celebrations with an exhibition of its journey over the years being planned for the end of October.
