The Motherwell Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board met for the first time on 28 August in Braidhurst High School.
The Board will drive forward investment in the Forgewood, North Motherwell and Motherwell town centre area, with up to £20 million from the UK Government Pride in Place programme over the next 10 years.
Chaired by local resident John Mulholland, the new Board includes local elected members and people who live and/or work in the area:
- Pamela Nash MP (Member of Parliament for Motherwell, Wishaw & Carluke)
- Clare Adamson MSP (Member of Scottish Parliament for Motherwell & Wishaw)
- Councillor Andrew Duffy-Lawson (Ward 18 Motherwell North)
- Councillor David Robb (Ward 19 Motherwell South, East & Ravenscraig)
- Richard Bolton (Senior Officer, Forgewood Housing Co-op)
- Collette Donald (Chief Executive, Health & Wellness Hub)
- Danielle Doyle (Local resident)
- Geraldine El Masrour (Motherwell Shopping Centre Manager for ESTAMA UK)
- Greg Kane (Acting Head Teacher, Braidhurst High School)
- Barry McCormack (Local resident)
- Lynn McFarlane (Local resident)
- Christopher Moore (Principal & Chief Executive New College Lanarkshire)
The Board, with support from the council, will develop and deliver a Pride in Place Plan, setting out an ambitious ten-year vision for the area.
The Pride in Place vision and priorities for Motherwell will be shaped by ongoing community engagement with residents, schools, local groups and businesses in the Motherwell Pride in Place area.
Outcomes from the engagement and survey will also help update the council’s Motherwell Town Action Plan.

“Motherwell Pride in Place is about putting local people at the heart of shaping the future of their neighbourhoods - listening to what matters most to people in Forgewood, North Motherwell and the town centre, and working together to turn priorities into action.
“We will continue to listen to and engage with residents as we draft the Pride in Place Plan for Motherwell. We have drafted up key priority themes for Forgewood, North Motherwell and Town centre based on feedback gathered through a community survey, engagement with local primary schoolchildren and engagement with local businesses and stakeholders who are active within the Motherwell Pride in Place area. We are reaching out to local people to help us develop our plan and have a very short survey where you can let us know what you think about the priorities identified so far.”

John Mulholland lives in Motherwell and has built deep roots in the local community through longstanding involvement in local schools and community organisations. He has almost 40 years’ experience in senior leadership roles within community-based housing, and has led and delivered significant regeneration initiatives, including community capital projects in Forgewood and Gowkthrapple.
