A brand-new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) has opened at St Helen’s Primary School in Cumbernauld.
This development is part of the council’s ongoing programme to replace the remaining red blaes pitches across the school estate with modern, high-quality sports facilities.
Work on the project began at the start of the summer holidays in 2025, the MUGA is now complete and ready for children and young people to use.
The facility will benefit both pupils and the wider community, with separate access points.
Features of the MUGA include:
- 100-metre running track for fitness and athletics
- Full-size basketball court with line markings for football, basketball, netball and tennis
- Additional grassed area created from the remaining blaes surface, complete with fixed football goals for extra play opportunities
Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, Children and Families, said: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to improving sports facilities for young people and local communities.
“The new MUGA at St Helen’s provides a fantastic space for physical activity, encouraging health, wellbeing and participation in sport.”
The upgraded facility is now open and available for use by the school during the day and by the wider community outwith the school day.
