Designs for the redeveloped Watersports Centre at Strathclyde Country Park and a new name have been unveiled, ahead of work starting next month.
The building will include
- space for small businesses to hire
- a ground floor café and seating terrace
- improved facilities for accessibility
- a new base for the Countryside Ranger Service
- space for outdoor education, and
- all the existing water sports and bike hire, plus refreshed changing rooms.
When it reopens, the building will be renamed Strathshore. The name was chosen following a public survey and consultation events with local schools, which more than 850 individuals participated in.
The building will close after the October school holidays and reopen in 2027. During that time public toilets will be available in Events Car Park 1 and The Heron pod will be open for drinks and snacks. Organised use of the loch will continue. Meeting rooms and changing rooms will not be available.
Once transformed the building will be far more energy efficient and heated by renewable technology.
“Our new Strathshore building will offer modern facilities for visitors to the park as well as creating new opportunities for small businesses and well-being activities,” explains Councillor Helen Loughran, Convener of the Environment and Climate Change Committee.
“The energy efficiency measures in the building will also reduce its running costs and the impact on climate change, giving an old building a positive, sustainable future.”
