A new play zone for young people has officially opened at Rennie Road in Kilsyth.
We designed and built the facility in partnership with Rennie and Northfield Tenants and Residents Association and local young people from Kilsyth Academy and Balmalloch Primary School.
Located next to the existing skate park, the zone provides space for young people aged 9 to 16 years to enjoy sports and test their balance and climbing skills on a range of play equipment.
Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of the Communities Committee, was joined by residents, local pupils and elected members to officially open the play zone.
“When designing this new facility, pupils from Balmalloch Primary School, St Maurice’s High School and Kilsyth Academy were consulted to make sure it meets the needs of young people,” Councillor Woods said.
“It complements the nearby Livingstone play park for young children, giving older children opportunities for more challenging activities that suit their age and abilities. The feedback we have received is very positive, and the play zone is already well used.”
Children and young people also took part in a competition to name the park and design a sign installed at the play zone.
Project funding of £80,000 came from the council’s Local Development Programme, which is managed by its Community Partnership Team.
