Six exceptional young people from across North Lanarkshire are being recognised this National Apprenticeship Week for their hard work, progress, and dedication across a diverse range of apprenticeship pathways.

Chloe Grant, an S6 pupil completing a Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services: Children and Young People, continues to shine through her nursery placement and growing confidence.

Chloe was named as an Apprentice of the Year at the recent New College Lanarkshire Apprentice of the Year Awards, where she was recognised for her achievements in the FA Social Services (Children & Young People) programme.

Haroon Ashfaq, a Foundation Apprentice in Construction at Cardinal Newman High School, has similarly impressed with his commitment, positive attitude, and hands‑on skills across multiple trades.

Haroon was also named an Apprentice of the Year for his work in FA Construction at the New College Lanarkshire awards.

Joe Battersby continues to excel in his Modern Apprenticeship with Mears Group PLC after securing one of only a small number of places from thousands of applicants. His joinery and carpentry apprenticeship builds on the strong practical experience gained during his Construction Management HNC.

In early years education, Freya Kennedy has successfully transitioned from her Foundation Apprenticeship to a Modern Apprenticeship after a positive placement at StGerards Nursery, an experience that strengthened her desire to work in childcare.

Within the Education and Families Service, Becky, a Level 6 Business and Administration apprentice, has developed her skills across a large team and is aiming to continue her career with the council upon completion.

Amy, also a Modern Apprentice in Business Administration, has grown in confidence since beginning her apprenticeship in 2025 and plans to continue progressing to Level 6. She credits the supportive environment and varied workload for helping her build strong professional skills.

Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, Children and Families, said: “Together, these six apprentices demonstrate the strength of North Lanarkshire’s apprenticeship programmes, which offer real experience, clear career pathways, and inspiring success stories that deserve celebration during National Apprenticeship Week.”
