We are investing in high-quality, sustainable sports facilities, with new 3G pitches featuring natural cork infill now open at St Andrew’s & Cumbernauld Primary School and Taylor High School.

The pitches are part of an eight-site upgrade programme, using 100% natural cork infill, providing a more sustainable alternative to traditional rubber.

The new pitches give pupils modern, all-weather facilities for PE and school sport, while also providing valuable spaces for local clubs, groups and residents to use outside school hours.

Council Leader Jim Logue visited St Andrew’s and Cumbernauld Primary Schools. He said: “These are major investments in our schools and communities, giving children and young people fantastic places to be active, learn new skills and enjoy sport.

“At around £300,000 per pitch, we want to make sure we get the best from our investment. Using natural cork means we can provide excellent facilities while taking a more sustainable approach.”

Depute Leader Louise Roarty visited Taylor High School. She said: “Good quality sports facilities give young people more opportunities to be active, work as a team and enjoy sport. The new pitch at Taylor High School will benefit pupils during the school day and provide an excellent facility for the wider community too.”

Communities Convener Councillor Geraldine Woods also visited both sites. She said: “These new pitches will benefit our schools and communities for years to come, providing modern facilities for children, young people, clubs, groups and residents.

“Using natural cork also helps reduce our reliance on artificial materials and supports our wider environmental ambitions.”

Upgrades have been completed at St Andrew’s Primary School, Cumbernauld Primary School, Caldervale High School, Coltness High School, Taylor High School and Wishaw Sports Centre.

Work is also currently under way at St Ambrose High School and Calderhead High School.
