A plaque has been unveiled in memory of much-loved Airdrie community champion Sandy Clark
The plaque, installed on a bench outside Milton Court, recognises Sandy’s years of dedication to the residents and community of Milton Court, where he served as chairperson of the residents’ group on more than one occasion.
He worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the people and communities he cared so much about.
During Sandy’s time as chairperson, the group was recognised with North Lanarkshire Federation’s Outstanding Contribution Award, a reflection of the hard work and community spirit he helped to build.
Sandy was also instrumental in organising fundraising events, including Macmillan Coffee Mornings. These events raised vital funds for charity while also giving people the chance to come together, have a cuppa, catch up and enjoy each other’s company.
Council Leader Jim Logue recently visited Milton Court to see the newly installed plaque and pay tribute to Sandy’s contribution.
Councillor Jim Logue said: “Sandy was a fantastic example of what community spirit is all about. He cared deeply about Milton Court and the people who lived there, and he was someone who didn’t just talk about making a difference he got things done.
“He worked with everyone around him to get the best for his community, while always making people feel welcome and listened to. It’s lovely to see this plaque in place as a lasting reminder of Sandy and everything he gave to Milton Court.
“His legacy is clear in the people who have followed in his footsteps and continue to work hard to make Milton Court a great place to live. I’m sure Sandy would be very proud of that. The plaque is a lasting tribute to Sandy and the difference he made to the community.”
Those who have taken on the role of chairperson since Sandy stepped down are keen to continue that work and build on the legacy he left behind helping to make Milton Court a welcoming, connected and vibrant place to live.
