Additional projects to deliver more new, affordable homes across North Lanarkshire have been
approved and are included in our Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) 2026/27 - 2030/31.

Our SHIP aims to deliver around 2,300 new affordable homes over the next five years, regenerating and investing in our communities and town centres, bringing benefits to the local economy including new jobs and improving the lives of our tenants and residents.

New priorities have been identified across North Lanarkshire and are now being added to previously agreed projects and will help meet local housing need. These projects will be delivered by the council and registered social landlords, supported by funding from the Scottish Government.

Identified in the plan are affordable housing investment priorities which support the Local Housing Strategy objectives and include delivering a range of housing to support varied needs across the area; ensuring homes are accessible; are environmentally friendly; tackling fuel poverty and helping to regenerate our communities and town centres.

Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake said: “Our SHIP plan details ambitious and exciting plans to deliver more affordable housing, ensuring a housing mix that meets the needs of our local communities now and in the future. We have identified additional priorities to deliver a further 280 homes, which have now been included in our plan.

“The programme is regularly reviewed, and together with Registered Social Landlords we’re delivering homes that are supporting our tenants and residents by being energy efficient, affordable and accessible, while improving our local communities and town centres and boosting
the local economy.”

Together with our Registered Social Landlord partners we’ve made significant progress in 2024/25 delivering 451 new homes. Our New Supply Programme delivered 278 new homes, and we acquired a further 92 properties as part of our Open Market Purchase Scheme. RSLs also completed 81 new build homes. It’s projected around 260 homes will be delivered by us and RSL partners in 2025/26. In addition, approximately 410 homes are scheduled to begin construction during this financial year.

The SHIP forms the basis of the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme, which is administered by the Scottish Government and provides grant funding for the council’s and housing associations’ new supply programmes. The SHIP will be submitted to the Scottish Government at the end of October.
