Primary school pupils enjoyed hands-on experience of construction skills during a visit to the new active travel link we're building at Ravenscraig
The pupils from Our Lady and St Francis Primary School in Carfin took part in activities organised by contractor Covanburn Contracts. They learned about different methods of measuring, the various jobs involved in a construction site, and how the diggers and other machinery operates.
Claire Semple, Acting Head Teacher at Our Lady and St. Francis Primary said: “This was a wonderful and exciting opportunity for our children to be involved in. The children found learning about the various roles in construction particularly interesting and to see the work happening in their own community was something special.”

The active travel link will run between Craigneuk and the New College Lanarkshire Motherwell Campus, connecting to the existing link from Craigneuk to Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, which opened last summer.
It is jointly funded by Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, the Scottish Government through their Place Based Investment Programme and the UK Government through their Shared Prosperity Fund.
A network of active travel links being created across North Lanarkshire will allow people to walk, wheel and cycle easily and safely to school, work, leisure facilities and local services.
The school visit was organised by the Covanburn Contracts, as part of the community benefits element of the contract, and Developing the Young Workforce which aims to prepare learners for their future pathways and the transition into the world of work.
