Drummers from the North Lanarkshire Schools Pipe Band turned out in record numbers at the prestigious World Solo Pipe Band Championships, which took place in October.
The event, held at Glasgow Caledonian University, attracted some of the finest young drumming talent from across the globe, including competitors from Scotland, Ireland, Canada, the USA and Australia.
Among the standout performances from North Lanarkshire were several impressive prize-winning results:
- Abigail Weir (Braidhurst High School) secured 2nd place in Section Two, Under-18 Four-Parted March.
- Kayde Neill (Caldervale High School) followed closely behind with 3rd place in the same category.
- Flynn Bryson (Calderhead High School) achieved 6th place in Section Three, Under-14 March, Strathspey and Reel.
- Lucie Queen (Airdrie Academy) earned a strong 5th place in the Tenor Drum Section B category.
Anne McCrory, Vice Convener of Education, Children and Families, said: “I want to congratulate the pupils who took part, as well as their families for the support behind these achievements. These results highlight the talent in our schools, and we’re proud to see North Lanarkshire represented so strongly on the world stage.”
Drumming instructor Steven Nelson added: “This was a great achievement, and the record turnout reflects the growing popularity and success of the schools’ pipe band programme, inspiring the next generation of drummers to aim high.”
