Excitement is building for this year’s North Lanarkshire Half Marathon after a new sponsorship partnership was announced with Specsavers.
The well-known opticians have joined the growing list of supporters backing one of the area’s biggest community sporting events, alongside title sponsor Albert Bartlett. Staff at the Specsavers Bellshill branch welcomed the council leader, provost and communities convener to mark the start of the partnership.
The North Lanarkshire Half Marathon is returning on Sunday 23 August, with runners taking on a fully chip-timed route through Motherwell and surrounding areas. Both the start and finish will be based at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.
Alongside the half marathon, a 5K race will also take place, giving younger runners and those looking for a shorter challenge the chance to get involved.
Provost Kenneth Duffy welcoming the new sponsorship said: “This is fantastic support for an event that has quickly become a real highlight in North Lanarkshire’s sporting calendar. It’s great to see local businesses like Specsavers getting behind it. The runners will now have the finish line firmly in their sights!
“The atmosphere last year was brilliant, with runners, families and volunteers all playing their part. I’d encourage anyone thinking about taking part this year to get signed up and be part of it.”
Participants can also look forward to a lively Family Fun Zone at Ravenscraig on the day, featuring bouncy castles, face painting, live music, food vendors and “Come & Try” sports activities.
