Primary 7 pupils at Stane Primary School, Shotts, have excelled in the Junior Cop, Good Citizen initiative. This project aims to educate young people about the dangers of harmful substances and promote positive life choices.

The programme, delivered in partnership with Police Scotland Lanarkshire’s prevention officers, Calderhead High campus officer, and North Lanarkshire Council Youth Work, was part of the school's health and wellbeing curriculum.

Pupils took part in interactive workshops on the effects and legal consequences of drug and alcohol misuse before creating a PowerPoint presentation to showcase their learning.

Their hard work earned them a Dynamic Youth Award, recognising their commitment to the project.

A highlight was when six P7 pupils presented their work to Primary 5–7 pupils from three local schools, gaining valuable public speaking and leadership experience.

Laura Simpson, Head Teacher of Stane Primary School, praised the pupils: “I am incredibly proud of Mrs Robert, our class teacher, and our Primary 7s. They showed fantastic teamwork, resilience, and leadership in delivering an important message to younger pupils.

“This project is a great example of how partnership working helps prepare our young people for the future.”

Police Scotland praised the pupils for their maturity and engagement. The initiative supports Stane Primary’s commitment to equipping pupils with the knowledge to make informed choices and contribute to a safer school community.
