Staff and families at Stepping Stones Family Learning Centre in Stepps are celebrating after receiving a very positive report from the Care Inspectorate.
The report, completed in March 2026, rated the centre as “very good” across all areas of inspection. Inspectors recognised the centre’s strong leadership, its nurturing environment and the positive relationships built with families, all of which contribute to strong outcomes for children.
Staff were praised for their kind, nurturing and inclusive approach to supporting every child. Inspectors also highlighted Stepping Stone's strong, respectful and meaningful relationships with parents and carers.
Feedback from families was overwhelmingly positive, with one parent sharing, “we are extremely happy with the service and can’t fault the staff for their warmth and professionalism”.
Families said they feel fully involved in their children’s learning and development, which has a positive impact on the quality of care provided.
The inspection also found that children are happy, engaged and enjoying their time at the centre. Staff were commended for valuing children’s right to play and for providing a wide range of experiences both indoors and outdoors. This allows children to lead their own play and learning in a supportive environment.
Councillor Louise Roarty, Depute Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for everyone at Stepping Stones Family Learning Centre. The report reflects the dedication, care and professionalism of staff and the strong partnerships they have built with families. I would like to congratulate the whole team on their success.”
Ann Shirra, Head of Stepping Stones Family Learning Centre, said: “The team at Stepping Stones Family Learning Centre is dedicated to creating a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all our children and families.
“We are absolutely delighted to have received such a positive report, which recognises the strong commitment, passion, and enthusiasm shown by every member of our team each day.
“This positive report is in a large part down to our families and for their continued support and the strong partnerships we have built together.
“We will continue to build on this success and strive for ongoing improvement to ensure the very best outcomes for every child in our care.”
