Older adults from St Joseph’s Senior Citizen Lunch Club have teamed up with Stepps Primary School’s Digital Leaders to take part in a new round of digital intergenerational learning sessions.
The collaboration forms part of our award‑winning Driving Digital Locally programme, which brings generations together to strengthen digital skills in older residents while offering pupils valuable opportunities to grow their confidence, communication abilities, and social awareness.
Over four weeks, pupils visited the lunch club, working side-by-side with their senior partners on iPads. Together, they explored everyday digital tasks designed to help participants feel more comfortable and capable in an increasingly online world.
At the same time, the young digital leaders developed important life skills - practising patience, active listening, and supportive guidance as they worked with their older learners in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Stepps Primary School Head Teacher Jennifer Gardiner said, "Our Digital Leaders at Stepps have thoroughly enjoyed their experience of working with the senior learners in our community.
“Not only did this allow them to develop their leaner's digital skills, it also helped the children develop their own leadership and meta skills. The children would like to thank everyone for allowing them to be involved in such a fantastic project."
One of the seniors who took part in the project Lynda Bowie said, “Working with the pupils on the digital project was a real joy. They showed me things I never thought I’d understand, and we had such a laugh together. It reminded me that learning never stops - no matter your age.”
