We are supporting the 16 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which launched on Tuesday, 25 November, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
This year’s theme, “All Together to Prevent and End Violence Against Women and Girls”, sends a powerful message: violence against women and girls is everyone’s business.
Provost Kenneth Duffy said: “North Lanarkshire Council is proud to stand alongside partners across Scotland in supporting this campaign to create a safer, more equal society.
“Local Government and the Scottish Government jointly own the Equally Safe Strategy, and elected members have a unique leadership role in making its ambition a reality.”
The Equally Safe strategy states: “No one sector, organisation, or service can tackle the prevention and eradication of VAWG alone.”
Councillor Ayeshah Khan, Equalities Champion, added: “North Lanarkshire Council is committed to working collaboratively with partners and communities to challenge attitudes, support survivors, and promote equality. Together, we can make a difference.
“By championing gender equality in decision-making, policy, and scrutiny, we can help drive the systemic change needed to prevent and end violence against women and girls.”
