Council tenants are being reminded about the importance of annual gas safety checks and encouraging anyone worried about their heating or keeping their home warm to contact their local housing office.
Gas safety checks are a vital part of keeping homes safe. They help ensure gas appliances are working properly and reduce the risk of serious hazards such as fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide poisoning. They also allow the council to identify where repairs or heating system upgrades may be needed, helping homes stay warm and safe during the winter months.
As annual gas safety checks continue, tenants are reminded that help is available for anyone struggling with heating their home or coping with cost-of-living pressures. Housing teams can offer practical advice and support, including help with benefits, rent and access to financial assistance.
Michael McPake, Convener of Housing, said: “We know the colder months can be especially difficult for many households. No one should feel they have to manage on their own, and our staff are here to listen and help people access the right support for their situation.”
Stephen Llewellyn, Chief Housing Officer added: “We know just how tough things are for many people right now, especially with the cost of living and energy prices during the cold months. If you’re struggling to heat your home, or if something doesn’t feel right with your heating, please don’t wait. Get in touch with us. Our teams are here to help, to listen, and to work with you to find solutions that make a real difference.”
