Tenants are enjoying their new homes following the completion of another fantastic council housing development at Thorn Road, Bellshill.

The 26 homes have been delivered on the site of the former Bellshill Miners Welfare Club and are set in the heart of the local community, close to local amenities and transport links.

It’s all part of our new housing supply programme which aims to deliver 6,000 new homes by 2035, regenerating our communities and town centres, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.

All our new homes are designed and built to the highest standard and are energy efficient as we embrace renewable technologies and build greener. They’re designed for varying needs, meaning they adapt over time to suit tenants’ needs and are secure by design.

The development, delivered by McTaggart Construction, is made up of 2 x 2-bedroom semi- detached; 2 x 3-bedroom semi-detached; 2 x 2-bedroom cottage flats; 2 x 2-bedroom cottage flats (wheelchair accessible) and 18 2-bedroom flats (amenity).

Attending the completion event was Housing Convener, Councillor Michael McPake, who was joined by Councillors Beth Baudo and Jim Reddin, and representatives from CCG and the council’s housing service.

Councillor McPake said: “I’m delighted to see another completion of a first-class housing development which highlights the significant progress we’re making in providing more housing across North Lanarkshire.

“As part of our new supply programme we’ve delivered over 2,600 homes which includes new builds, off-the-shelf purchases from private developers and our Open Market Purchase Scheme and I’m confident we will continue to build on this with more homes being completed and projects now beginning on site.

“We’re delivering modern, energy efficient, affordable homes to suit our tenants needs now and for the future, improving the lives of local people and delivering economic opportunity - all part of our vision to make North Lanarkshire the place to Live, Learn, Work, Invest and Visit.”

The development cost £5.960m and received Scottish Government grant funding of £2.832m.

Janice Russell, Managing Director at McTaggart Construction commented: “We're proud to have delivered these 26 high-quality homes at Thorn Road, providing much-needed affordable housing in the heart of Bellshill. The mix of house types, including wheelchair accessible homes, reflects our commitment to building homes that meet the varying needs of tenants now and into the future, and it's fantastic to see new residents already settling into and enjoying their new homes.”
