Talented pupils from St Margaret of Scotland Primary in Cumbernauld have taken part in the recording of the new Balamory theme tune, which launched on CBeebies on 20 April.

The school has worked with Jenny Cheung from the Voice Project Scotland since 2018, with singing delivered across the school and a choir developed over that time.

In October 2025, television production company Lion TV contacted Jenny to ask if she worked with children who might be suitable to sing on the new Balamory theme tune. Jenny immediately though that pupils from St Margaret of Scotland Primary would be perfect for the task.

Ten singers were selected from the school choir to put together an audition recording. And, a few weeks later, the group was told that they had been chosen to take part in the final recording.

Jenny Cheung said: “These children already had a really strong foundation from the work they’ve been doing at school. They worked hard on the audition and handled the whole process confidently.

“It was great to see the choir recognised by the production team for their natural sound, reflecting the voices of Scottish children.”

The pupils took part a recording session at a studio in Glasgow shortly before Christmas, and they had to keep it all a secret until the programme was broadcast.

Depute Head Teacher Stephen Duffy said: “We’re very proud of how the pupils represented the school. They approached the recording session with maturity and focus, and it was a valuable experience for them to see how their classroom learning can lead to real‑world opportunities.”

The pupils themselves described taking part in the recording as “a fabulous experience” and said they enjoyed working in a professional studio and hearing the finished theme tune when the programme launched.

The voices of the group can now be heard on the Balamory theme tune following the programme’s relaunch.

The iconic children’s television programme originally aired from 2002 to 2005

In the Scottish island town of Balamory, a lovable community of quirky characters celebrate each day with rainbow-coloured comic adventures filled with songs, friendship and fun.
