Catherine Muldoon marked a remarkable milestone on 24 July as she celebrated her 100th birthday at Houldsworth Court in Wishaw, surrounded by friends, neighbours, and family.

Born Catherine Leonard in 1925 in Newmains, Catherine is the youngest of five siblings. She married Pat Muldoon in 1944 and together they raised five children. Her extended family now includes 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Despite the loss of several close family members, Catherine’s warmth and resilience continue to shine. After many years caring for her family, she worked in the Costain Concrete Works canteen before spending over a decade as a Nursing Assistant in Hartwood Hospital.

Her milestone birthday was marked with a celebration at Houldsworth Court, organised by residents Eddie and Elizabeth Campbell. Catherine was joined by Provost Kenneth Duffy and Deputy Lieutenant Alison Plummer, who delivered birthday greetings from His Majesty King Charles and Queen Camilla, on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire, Lady Susan Haughey.

Provost Kenneth Duffy said: “It was a real honour to meet Catherine and celebrate this incredible milestone with her. She has lived a full life, dedicated to her family and her community, and her kindness and sense of humour made the occasion truly special. Reaching 100 is an amazing achievement and it’s clear she’s still surrounded by love and friendship.”

The birthday festivities will continue with a special evening at Houldsworth Bowling Club, followed by a family gathering on Sunday, with relatives travelling from around the globe to be there.

True to her kind spirit, Catherine asked for no presents and instead encouraged donations to two charities close to her heart, St Vincent de Paul at St Ignatius Parish Church and Made for You in ML2.
