Staff from across the council have been getting stuck into hands-on volunteering projects, helping to transform outdoor areas at schools and family facilities across the area.
As part of the council’s VolunteerNL programme, staff volunteers have worked at Kilsyth Primary School, Bellshill Academy and Netherton Family Learning Centre, giving the outdoor spaces a new lease of life.
“The projects have seen volunteers get involved in practical improvements designed to create more welcoming, attractive and useful spaces for children, young people, families and the wider school community,” explained Joanna Kingsley, VolunteerNL Manger.
“From clearing and improving outdoor areas to carrying out maintenance and enhancement work, council staff have donated their time and skills to make a visible difference in the places where local people learn, play and spend time together.”
Provost Kenneth Duffy who took part in one of the volunteer days at Bellshill Academy, added: “Our staff have shown great enthusiasm for getting involved and making a practical difference in these community spaces.
“These projects demonstrate what can be achieved when people come together, share their skills and give their time to help improve the places that matter to local communities.”
The work is part of VolunteerNL, North Lanarkshire Council’s volunteering programme, which encourages people to give back to their communities and take part in worthwhile projects.
Council staff can also take part in Employer Supported Volunteering, which provides opportunities for teams to spend a volunteering day working together on projects that benefit local communities.
The initiative is helping to strengthen links between council staff and the communities they serve, while creating positive spaces for local children, families and residents.
For organisations and businesses interested in arranging a team volunteering day, North Lanarkshire Council offers Employer Supported Volunteering projects through the programme.
