Community Engagement

Public contracts have contractual clauses that include community benefits, these can be used to build a range of economic, social or environmental conditions into the delivery of public contracts.

We are committed to maximising the benefits to our communities from our procurement activity by ensuring local communities benefit from our investment and expenditure activity where possible.

These benefits include:

  • helping to boost local employment by creating jobs, where possible
  • creating educational and skills opportunities such as apprenticeships and work experience
  • support for local initiatives

Primary school site visits - Shawhead demolition

We have set an ambitious programme to deliver improved outcomes for our tenants, communities and town centres. This plan includes for the demolition of low demand properties in multi-story and low rise flatted properties within a number of defined areas. Plans for the programme including the demolition of 11 low-rise blocks of flats within the Shawhead area of Coatbridge.

In September 2024 pupils from Shawhead Primary school and St Bernards Primary School were given the opportunity to visit one of our Shawhead demolition sites run by the contractor Reigart.

During their visit, pupils were firstly given a short presentation explaining the works that were being carried out and distributed appropriate PPE for their visit. They were then given access to allocated viewing areas to safely watch the machinery and demolition process.
